Measurements and Vehicle Numbers

Inch and Millimetre
Measurements are expressed in imperial inches (″) or in millimetres (mm). Since 1959, the inch has been defined and internationally accepted as being equivalent to 25.4 millimetres.
Engineering terms of thou and small dimensions
The dimensions used in general engineering are expressed in the imperial dimension of thou.: one thousandth of one inch (″). The engines that we are supplying parts for all have imperial specified dimensions therefore we use this standard term when specifying engine parts. Thus an oversize or undersize measure of 0.010" (10 thou) = 0.254mm, 0.020" (20 thou) = 0.508mm, 0.030" (30 thou) = 0.762mm, 0.040" (40 thou) = 1.016mm, 0.050" (50 thou) = 1.270mm, 0.060" (60 thou) = 1.524mm, all measured from 'standard' original size. It is advisable to carry out machine work on engine parts only when you have the replacement pieces actually to hand. We can not be held responsible for any variations on measurements which are for guidance purposes only.
